Per the Iowa Real Estate Commission (IREC), students understand the following key points about distant learning (online learning) which is self-paced without the use of a live instructor:

• IREC considers an hour of instruction to be 50 minutes
• Students must attest via affidavit to their course participation & completion
• All courses must be completed within 6 months of purchase date
• All online courses must contain a minimum of 10 questions per course hour (one CE=10 questions, 2CE=20 questions) or 60 questions for a 6-8 hour course
• There is no limit to the number of times you may retake a quiz
• A passing score of 80% must be attained to complete a course

*According to Iowa Code, 36 hours of continuing education is required every three years.  Of those, a minimum of 12 hours must be done by a live course.  Live courses include programs using Zoom, where the instructor and student can see and hear each other in real time.  Up to 24 hours can be done via online courses, also referred to as self-paced or distance learning.
